Is rollerblading the same as ice skating?

Actually it's very similar but even better and more fun than ice skating! It's a very healthy way to keep fit, tons more people each year are into it and also even provides a free method of personal transportation. We got our first start at this business training people how to ice skate but then we both never got to enjoy the outdoors. Most techniques are the same for both sports except the balance and especially stopping is completely different!!

The golden rule states that if you can ice skate, you can rollerblade and vice versa. So if you wish to learn to blade, you will probably also be able to ice skate come winter. Just make sure that you take balance and stopping lessons (Level D / Level C) to be a safe and skilled PROBLADER at the very least...

Do you rent out all of the required equipment?

Sorry no, we do not for maximum safety and health reasons. We know that it costs a little bit extra to buy all the added gear and can also be a hassle to track it all down. The problem we find with rental equipment from our clients perspective is that usually it either does not fit right to be safe, it can smell of other peoples' sweat (yes, you will sweat a little at our lessons) , and it simply does not promote safe skating habits since "renting it" is meant to be used only when learning?

"The more gear our clients wear, the quicker they seem to learn."

If you're not sure what you need just remember that your shoe size is the size you need for the skates. A bicycle helmet can be used, the bigger of the two pads goes on your knees, the other pair on your elbows and those wrist guard things, they go on your ears...just kidding :) we can show you how those work when you meet us. Yes, it's really that simple!

Please trust us when we say from experience, get your own gear. You will most likely want to keep it after the lesson is over but if you need to exchange, simply keep the receipt and any reputable sports department store should be able to help you out.

Am I too old or too young to learn how to skate?

Well think of it this way, are you too old to walk?  If you can walk, you can skate! We have taught from the age of 2-82 (yes, the 2 year old is currently in training to instruct one day and our 82 year old client now has enough skills to instruct!)

Most of our clients are aged from 25-65. We do have the exceptions however as mentioned above as it still amazes us to this day meeting these people. The one secret we have learned from our clients is if you keep active and try new things in a safe but fun environment, you can reverse your age both mentally and physically.

Since you are geared up with us like a gladiator, and it's now the new "cool", you have absolutely nothing to worry about except all the fun you missed in the past!

How many lessons are there in a program?

There is only one, 1.5 hour lesson in each program. What? How can this be enough your thinking. Well believe it or not, we know that both your time and patience is extremely limited. Instead of having you come back 3-4 times to learn the same skills over and over again, we teach you everything that you need to know and more in one single power session, that works!

Since each program has individual skill building and safety components, you can choose what you want to learn which is highly concise and believe us when we say that you will learn fast! It is then your responsibility to practice the new skills you have learned after the program and then return to us and learn even more when you're ready.

No worries, if you think you won't be able to learn how to safely skate and stop in only 1.5 hours, please put us to the test with you - it's even our Guarantee! If you have the confidence in us, we certainly have the confidence in you.

Do I need to take more than one lesson?

That is completely up to you. Many of our clients take both beginner/intermediate Level D and Level C programs to get the basics down. Some even continue to the advanced levels B and A. They best thing to do is try a program or two with us and see what you think. Real focused clients actually take two programs back-to-back on the same day and others have completed all four programs in one spring and summer!

If all you wish to to know is the basics of skating forward, getting more balance on your skates and beginner stopping - Level D is all you need for now. If you would like to skate/stop much better and turn quickly, try Level C. However, once you start learning, it's kind of addictive to want more, so be warned...

Why can I not find a schedule of the lessons?

We don't provide an exact schedule for our training programs online due to a few reasons. The first being that since we use semi-public locations, we try to not have event over crowding at each of our sessions. We also respect the fact that certain clientele require a level of privacy as many others wish to have the least amount of people watching them learn as possible, therefore we do not promote each session to the general public. The weather can also keep the schedules changing daily and sometimes even hourly.

However, we do provide our regular session availability here online which includes the locations and times that you may choose to attend depending upon your schedule. Once your confirmed registration is received and processed, you will receive a detailed information package including directions with a map to meet us.

Can I reschedule my lesson?

Yes, your lesson is yours! We do require at least 48 hours notice (and appreciate much more) if you need to reschedule due to the fact that other clients on our waiting lists may join in your absence. We will try our best to fit you in once again as soon as possible at a later date and time according to your preferences. Your confirmed registration is also valid for up to one complete year from the date payment was received, so no rush if things get a little hectic with your schedule, we understand!

What if it rains on the day of my lesson?

In the unfortunate chance of poor weather/safety conditions or other unforeseen issues of an urgent nature, we will reschedule the program for an alternate date.

Since the weather at different locations can change on an hourly basis we encourage you to visit our Scheduled Training Program Status Area via your internet browser or mobile device within 1 hour prior to the scheduled training program. (This status area link is also sent to you with your detailed information package upon registration.) If the program is cancelled, we will then update you with a rescheduled date and time to your email inbox within 48 hours.

Can I make payment in cash?

Unfortunately no. For the security of our instructors on location and clients alike, we only accept payment in advance via our completely automated and convenient online payment option to confirm all registrations. You may complete payment safely and instantly with any major type of credit card, bank card or account.

My friend wants to teach me, is this recommended?

That depends on your friend! Sometimes the ones closest to us make learning even harder and not because they can't help, it's just maybe that we need a second or even a professional opinion. When you join us, we treat you exactly the same as any learner and with usually no prior knowledge of your skills and personality. This can be a good thing because not only will you learn different perspectives, but you are also in a safe and less isolated environment as other people are learning with you.  Therefore, you may improve much quicker, feel much more confident and comfortable.

My friend wants to register with me, is this possible?

Certainly! All you need to do is put both names in the "Names(,s)" section of the registration form separated by a comma, so that we can make sure that you are both enrolled in the same class. You can also confirm payment by selecting the "Quantity" dropdown box once on the payment page and have them reimburse you later...but only if they are a good friend :). Another option is to pay for their first class, and they can pay for your second!

If you would rather have them complete their own payment, that is fine as well. Just make sure they put both your names in the "Names(,s)" section.

Do you teach children? Can my child join a program with me?

Please Contact Us for the availability of our child only programs. We currently do not allow children under the age of 14 to be included in a regular program with other adults. However, we do encourage children to enroll with their parents and/or guardians in a separate class and learn together in a Semi-Private Program.

Did you know...
You are now able to claim back the fees paid for physical fitness programs for your children under the age of 16. The children's fitness tax credit provides parents with an annual credit of up to $500 per child to help cover the cost of their child's physical fitness programs or sporting activities fees.

For more information on this tax credit, visit http://www.cra.gc.ca/fitness

I hurt myself trying this before, is it safe to try again?

Rollerblading is an extremely low risk and safe sport as long as you have had the proper training and wear all of the required protective equipment at all times. The problem is that most people that visit us have previously received improper training with no protection which unfortunately results to a very bad experience. More than 80% of our clients that join our programs state that "they have tried to learn on their own and/or were given inadequate training." As they say, you will never know until you try again!

I'm very nervous with no experience at all, is this ok?

Perfect! Being nervous about learning a new sport like this is quite normal. It's also really exciting knowing that all of the new skills that you learn, you get to keep with you - for life.  We start all of our programs from beginner all the way to advance with very basic, no prior knowledge required, simple progressive techniques. In fact, we find it easier to train when our clients are completely new and fresh because there are no bad habits to reverse!

Do you have another question that is not listed on here, or anywhere else that you can easily find it on our website? Please feel free to contact us with it and we will try to get it up here real quick. Thanks!
